Herb Featured This Month: Chaste Tree (Vitex)

This month Island Women’s Healing is featuring the Chaste Tree herb (Vitex angus-castus). This herb is native to Greece and Italy, commonly used in ancient times by the Romans. The use of Vitex, derived from the great state of Rome, was best known as a “female herb” using the seeds and leaves to combat pain and inflammation of the uterus. Modern clinical research shows that Vitex can be helpful in balancing the female sexual hormones by regulating the pituitary gland within the brain which is responsible for alerting other glands via chemical signals in the creation of hormones.
